A Letter to Myself

My friend Suzanne did this on her blog, and her letter turned out so well, I decided to borrow the idea! :) I know I was 17, only 10 years ago, but a lot has happened in ten years, and there's a lot I would tell my 17 year old self if I had the chance....

(Here I am, 17 years old)

Dear Seventeen Year Old Brittany-

Ten years has gone by and you've been through a lot. There has been sorrow, fear, love, joy, and so many more emotions!

You're an amazing young woman, you don't think you are, but you are. You are insecure, you're unsure, and you're worried. You like to smile, when you're really not happy, and you've yet to truly find who you are. You are intelligent, and you have drive. You know what you want in life, but you aren't sure how to get there. You are funny and witty. You are special. Believe it.

You are going to do great things, in the next ten years. Sometimes you find yourself second guessing yourself... don't. God has a plan for you. Sometimes the plan isn't clear, and sometimes you feel anxious... don't. Follow God's plan. Follow God.

In a few years, you're going to get sick. Really sick. Don't ignore it! Go to the doctor...sooner than later... They'll tell you that you will need surgery, have it. Don't be afraid. Life will be GOOD after the surgery. You're going to have an amazing little boy, ALL because of that surgery.

Here are some random things you should know:

1) Don't bother with Myspace. Get a Facebook instead.
2) Get a cellphone that has a QWERTY board. You won't regret it, I promise.
3) You are NOT going to love Counting Crows forever. I know. Sad day.
4) You will name a child After Adam.... I know. Happy day.
5) People are going to preach the Gospel to you... listen... don't be stubborn.
6) Hug those you don't hug often. You are going to lose some important people in your life. Love them.
7) Little boys really are just as amazing as little girls... just remember that.
8) Times get rough, really rough. You are strong enough! You can do it!
9) You like Public Relations. You don't want to be a doctor or a teacher... I know... I know... You think you want to do both of those things, right now, but it doesn't seem to be in the plan.
10) Music, ten years later, is still really important to you. Rock on. Go to concerts. HAVE FUN! :)

Brittany, life is hard. It really is. No one ever said it was going to be easy. You can do it though! You will be an amazing mother, a good wife, and a loving friend. Sometimes, even ten years later, you doubt yourself. Don't. You can do it!

Love-
Me

Amazing how much we change, yet don't change in 10 years isn't it? I've learned so much about myself and life in general in the last 10 years too and I wish sometimes that I could go back with my knowledge and explain it all to the me of then.

oh Brittany! What an amazing, beautiful letter. Parts are sweet and tender, parts are filled with wisdom, and parts are funny. You must have been an awesome girl at 17 - and you're an aweosme woman now! Hugs!

That was beautiful , it sounds like the last 10 years have not been the easiest for you but you have ended up in an amazing place.

If i would write a letter to my 17 year old self i would tell myself to relax , the person i will spend my life with is already in my life and i will have the family i have always dreamed of.

I just gave a friend a book on this very thing. A whole bunch of celebrities wrote to themselves. Great job Brittany. Great advice to yourself.Beautifully written.
And btw! You look exactly the same as you do now!!!!!!

A touching moment.

For a moment I couldn't help but think of my ten years ago. How things change, and how things don't change.

I wonder if we'd have turned out differently if we knew, beforehand.

This is AWESOME! I want to do one of these! :)

I think the first part is going to go... "Don't look at or speak to any men until you meet one named Jonathan."

Haha ;)
